Girls

Recently in a discussion with a couple of friends of mine (both girls), the issue of the actions of women in New Zealand was discussed. To my suprise both of them started ripping into Kiwi women about how poorly they behaved, particually in the fields of leadership and domineering masculine woman. Initially I agreed as a generalisation, but after thinking about the women closest to me (mostly women I've met in the last 2-3 years), I realised that this group was very different to the "target" group of women. After reflecting on it, I realised that the group of girls I hung arround with were very different and I recognised some of the characteristics that made them so. These were:

Compassion - Compassion that I've felt hasn't been held back in anyway. This is a good idea, it sorta recognises that some guys actually have feelings and then provides a safe environment in which guys can then share them.

Kindness - Actual kindness with no expectations of what can be gotten out of it. Its just nice.

Speaking their mind - I like this idea! No longer does language have to be encrypted with multiple subtleties of which man kind has never been given the code. No more "You should know my needs before I anticipate them" (and yes I have had that). Just true and clear communication (with tact). This also means that frustrations and the sort don't get bottled up until boiling point (usually tact goes out the door at this point).

Submissiveness
- Oh boy, you were waiting for this one right! But no, I don't mean easily dominated, I mean submissive in the true sence of the word. I've found that many of the girls I'm talking about are a lot more willing to give other peoples things/ideas a go. This is in turn almost universally recipricated by others. It also makes a nice change from the subtle mentalities that many have of angry feminism and male dominance.

Humility - I've found it that one of the best ways to humble me is to treat me with humility. Very cool in any relationship for both parties concerned. Also very reciprocal.

I've found it really good to see beauty in these non-worldly ways, it's opened my eyes to aspects that are rarely seen these days. Thanks to all of you, you know who you are.

Reflections

After reading the excellent post by AJ, i felt the need to recognise those who have so greatly influenced my life. Though at the time I didn't necessarily realise it, both Chris and Mike would have dramatic impacts on my life.

Chris took the time away from being in church to spend time listening to the worldly ideas of a 16 year old. He patiently taught me the basics of the Word when beforehand I had no concept of ideas as simple as salvation and redeption or even if christians believed in hell or the devil.

Mike helped me through the easily the hardest time of my life and was one of the few people to show me truth, love and empathy, no matter what the hour. When the rest of the support systems arround me found things to difficult and collapsed, Mike was the one who helped me see a small glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel when I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face.

For the Lords love and provision of these people in my life I am truely thankful. I guess I can only hope to in someway be a blessing to others, as these two were to me, as well as many others. They are huge shoes to fill.

Honestly?

What I don't get is why churchs insist on singing songs about how holy they all are, when in reality our churchs are very sick and most members struggle badly to keep in line with Gods ideals?

Is this lack of honesty with ourselfs hiding the epidemic within us and supressing those who want to be more honest with where they're at in their spiritual walk?

This is why i personally why I prefer music more like Shawn Mc Donald and less like hillsong (not to say it doesn't have a place).

1Co 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

VJ Day today

Twas VJ Day today. For those of you who don't know that's victory over Japan (day). in the Pacific, the war didn't end until August 15th 1945. Europe the end of the came on May the 8th ~3 months earlier. To most, this means very little but for our grandparents, the war came awefully close with German raiders destroying our interisland ferrys (Chch - Chattams (Holmwood)), Japanese flying boats scanning our territorial waters, Japanese submarines in Wellington harbour, infact Japan had alrerady printed the yen with which to pay it's soldiers when they invaded New Zealand. New Zealand would be a very different place if it weren't for the actions of many of our grandparents and I am very thankfull to God for what they did, without there actions, there would be a good chance that many of us would not be arround today.

Dinosaurus Rex

A couple of days ago while relaxing in the flat with flatmats and friends, the topic of favourite dinosaurs as kids came up. After long debate Jarrod went for a Raptor, Paul went for a Triceratops, James went for a Triceratops, Andrew went for a Diploducus like dino and Nathan went for the flying one that starts with t. So to settle this long running debate:

Who was your favourite dinosaur?
Tyrannosaurus rex. The sellout dino himself.... Rip off your face.
Stegosaurus. The dude with bone plates on his or her back and a large mace on his or her tail.
Triceratops. The three horned good guy.
Velociraptor. Angry, angry dinosaur.
Diplodocus. Long legs, long neck, but a bit of a vegetarian.
Pteranodon. The flying one that doesn't start with T, thanks Nathan.
Argentinosaurus. Sorta like a Diplodocus but with a latin accent.
Seismosaurus. Again a bit like a Diplodocus but fat.
Styracosaurus. Name that sounds like a disease.
Trogdor. Technically not a dinosaur, but we'll slot him in.
